ACON: Rural Retreat for Gay Men with HIV
The 2019 ACON Rural Retreat for Gay Men with HIV is scheduled for the extended weekend Fri 5 – Tue 9 April in a beautiful outdoor educational setting in the Tweed Valley. ACON Northern Rivers has organized this annual event since 1994.
The Retreat is for all gay men living with HIV who live in rural/regional NSW (from Wentworth to Tweed Heads and any places in between).
Registration and payment by credit card here: https://www.aconhealth.org.au/nswruralretreat2019 The Retreat is subsidised by ACON however we do require a small commitment for men attending ($120 unwaged / $200 waged).
The Retreat has received excellent feedback from men who are living in rural NSW with few opportunities for social connection with other HIV-positive gay men. The Retreat has been especially valued by men who have recently been diagnosed.
Here’s some more information:
Our 2019 Retreat is planned for Friday 5 (evening) to Tuesday 9 April 2019. That’s just a few weeks’ away so it’s now time to consider participating.
The Retreat is held at a private outdoor bush education centre outside Murwillumbah in northern NSW (about 80km south of the Gold Coast airport). It offers participants structured activities such as workshops, small group peer discussions, and fun and exercise activities (such as: morning yoga classes; canoeing on a local dam; ball games; and swimming). The venue has a well-stocked reading library and board games. There’s lots of ‘free’ time for relaxation, reading, games and informal chatting.
The Retreat is full catered with wholesome and delicious meals (diverse dietary requirements happily accommodated). Accommodation is either in your own camping gear (some guys really get into that) or in shared bunkhouse rooms limited to 4 guys per room (participants must supply their own bed linen/sleeping bag etc).
Retreat fees are $120 for unwaged participants (commonly on supported incomes, such as Centrelink) and $200 for waged participants.
ACON will consider providing financial and other support for participants in rural/regional NSW (except the Northern Rivers) to attend the Retreat. This is on a case-by-case and as needs basis. Please contact us (02) 6622 155 or email@example.com to discuss
